A Weekend in Huntsville, Alabama

Welcome to Huntsville, Alabama – The Rocket City!

Huntsville, Alabama, is a great weekend trip from Atlanta. It is known as the “Rocket City” because of its aerospace industry so when you are in town, you have to check out the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. This interactive museum offers a thrilling journey through the history of space exploration, featuring iconic rockets, immersive exhibits, and hands-on experiences.

Emerging Culinary Scene

Huntsville has also quietly emerged as a vibrant culinary scene. With a diverse range of options, from casual eateries to upscale dining, there’s something to satisfy every palate. But first, coffee! I stumbled upon Honest Coffee Roasters, which is a great spot that was just around the corner from the hotel. They have a wide variety of drinks, pastries, breakfast dishes, and more.

Speaking of the hotel, I was impressed with 106 Jefferson. In particular, there is an amazing roof top deck and bar and a sunset cocktail there was a perfect touch to the evening.

Commerce Kitchen is the place for brunch. Beautiful décor compliments the spirited cocktails and delicious dishes.

There are lots of great dinner options including the popular Cotton Row, a charming restaurant serving up Southern comfort food with a modern twist. Purveyor is a standout destination for those seeking a refined dining experience. This great restaurant offers a seasonal menu featuring locally sourced ingredients and innovative dishes (and rockstar cornbread). Also, make sure to check out their bar for some great drinks, including a smoked Old Fashioned and great whiskey selection!

Take A Stroll Through Huntsville

When you are not enjoying the delicious food and beverage options, you can take a leisurely stroll around town and find lots of great things to see. For example:

The Huntsville Museum of Art. This cultural gem showcases a diverse collection of art, ranging from American and European paintings to contemporary works.

Big Spring International Park. After enjoying the Museum, you can walk around the beautiful surrounding park, which also ties to the city center. There are lots of ducks, huge “koi” fish and make sure to check out the famous Big Spring, the original water source the city was built around.
