If you’re looking for the perfect getaway from the city, look no further than the beautiful Barnsley Resort! Located northwest of Atlanta, it’s only an hour drive and ideal for a weekend trip. The cottages and resort are romantic and the food is delicious! Spend the day exploring the outdoors or in their beautiful gardens. They really do have so much to offer to keep you entertained or just blissfully relaxed.
Lots of Outdoor Activities
If you want to spend some time outdoors, Barnsley offers horseback riding, archery, axe throwing, hiking, biking, UTV trail rides, disc golf, fishing and of course their gardens. My husband and I chose to do an hour-long guided horseback ride which was such a memorable experience! We probably would have done more but we got some rainy weather while there.
Food & Drinks
Tapas Cooking Class & Wine Tasting
Barnsley also offers a lot of fun activities like cooking classes, wine tastings, cocktail classes and more. So you’ll want to check their website and/or call to find out what is happening when you plan your visit. We did a Spanish Tapas cooking class and wine tasting and it was a blast!
That was our favorite part of our stay – the chef is really talented and fun. He showed us how to make several dishes, which were all so yummy, and then they paired each one with a different wine. It was a great way to spend the afternoon!
Outdoor Beer Garden
In addition to special classes, there some great food options always available at Barnsley Resort. They have an outdoor beer garden where of course you can get drinks but also pizza, wings and hot breakfast sandwiches in the morning. It’s casual and you can dine outside or take with you. Not to mention the open fire pit perfect for s’mores.
Woodlands Grill
Woodlands Grill overlooks their golf course and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a full bar and serve wine, spirits and beer. We had dinner and breakfast here and both meals were really good. The fried chicken with pimento mac & cheese and pecan pancakes were my favorites! You can make a reservation for dining at Woodlands Grill at check in.
“Pecan” Woodford Bourbon? Yes Please!
Another very cool offering is Barnsley’s famous “pecan” Woodford Reserve bourbon. They actually filter an entire bottle through pecans, which imparts a delicious flavor to the bourbon when it is done. Check out this video. Even better, guests can enjoy a free sample at night!
Rice House Excellence
And last but absolutely not least is Rice House! Chef Javier Cuesta offers a seasonal menu inspired by the best local farms and their own gardens. The seasonal menu is five courses with the option of wine pairings. We had the pleasure of dining here for their Valentine Weekend dinner and WOW, it was incredible! Every dish was stunning and tasted amazing and the service was top notch.
If you love wine, I recommend doing the pairings too. Rice House requires a reservation so I would highly recommend planning on this one night of your stay.
Overall, I was very impressed with my visit to Barnsley Resort and cannot wait to visit again in the spring or summer when everything is blooming. I really want to go for a hike and explore the gardens and outdoor activities more. This is such a nice place to go, however, if you need to get away and only have a couple of days or want to plan a surprise for your significant other.
Enjoy and stay bubbly!
